AD – We originally received a copy of Pass the Pigs in a blogging conference goodie bag. We were under no obligation to share our thoughts on the game, and in reality it’s sat on the shelf for a good for years before being brought into playing rotation. With a summer featuring quite a lot of travel, I’ve been on the look out for games that work on the move for the whole family and don’t take up too much space in my bag. This handy version of Pass the Pigs fits the brief perfectly.
Simple game for the whole family
All you need is some sort of playing surface and we found that a train table was the ideal place. All players need to do is throw the pigs onto the table and look at how they land. Depending on whether they’re lying on their backs, sides or trotters determine how many points you get. The first to score 100 wins the game. It really is that simple, yet everyone really enjoys playing. Age, or dexterity gives you no advantage at all, and with just one person working as scorekeeper you don’t need to worry about whether all players can count or add up either.
Pass the Pigs travel game
Our travel version of Pass the Pigs comes in a handy plastic case that has space in it for the pigs, score pad, a couple of pencils and instructions. The quick glance scoring sheet isn’t necessarily the clearest, so we found we had to adopt some house rules about when exactly you have to lose all your score, and when it just means you don’t score that round. House rules in place though we found it the perfect game to fill short train journeys into London.
